May is next week! If you’re like me, you’re already planning and contemplating what your content will look like for May to keep your people engaged and your brand top of mind.

But, you may have some gaps or need help on what to blog about–or share on social media or to your email list–and just need some fresh ideas to fill out your content calendar.

I got you!

Here are 19 compelling May content ideas for the days or weeks when you’re still wondering what the heck you’re going to write about.

Grab some or all and slice and dice them as you see fit.

Have at it!

#1 Mother’s Day

The first few are pretty obvious yet definitely worth mentioning. Consider how you can honor mothers as it makes sense for your brand. Examples include highlighting the most influential moms in your industry (and giving them a plug/link on your blog) or sharing your own journey of being a mom as a chance to create an intimate experience with your audience (making you more relatable and likeable).

#2 Memorial Day!

If you serve a local audience, why not post all the happenings in the area that you’re pretty sure your audience would enjoy? Be sure to post it a few weeks before Memorial Day to give folks time to plan. Put a unique spin or flair on these posts they wouldn’t find anywhere else.

#3 Summer Is Coming🌞

Any summer hits you got coming next month? Maybe new products or you’re launching on a new platform (like a podcast)? Or, going in a different direction here, consider how you can help fans start preparing now for the hot months ahead. Whatever that looks like for your business, you can start giving people a heads up now, giving them a chance to be proactive and ready.

#4 Revisit Your Most Popular Blog Posts…and Refresh’em!

Did you know content refresh is one of the hottest strategies in content marketing? By simply updating and adding new content to an existing blog post on your website, you can get cool points from big Google itself. This drives more traffic to your site and allows you to work smarter with your content.

Check out your Google Analytics and uncover your top-performing blog posts. Make a plan to update and re-promote each.

Here’s a full content refresh how-to that offers some awesome guidance.

#5 The Biggest Mistakes…and How to Correct them

You can never go wrong with calling out the biggest mistakes people make in your industry and showing readers the right way of doing things. Be gentle in your approach and lavish in your value and you’ll win them over every time!

#6 A How to Deep-Dive with Videos, Screenshots,…the Works

Take a core topic of your business and go deep with your reader; creating a long-form piece of content that offers incredible value and gives a holistic view on the subject. Neil Patel is a genius at doing deep-dive blog posts. The beauty about long-form pieces is that it gives you so much room and opportunity to repurpose and extract content to fuel your other platforms…again, working smarter.

#7 A Simple How to Will do!

You can also do a quick how-to post that shows your reader how to do a simple task to make them more effective and efficient. How-to’s are perfect content pieces for building brand awareness.

#8 How to Stay Productive

As people are gearing up for the warm months ahead and vacations (hanging out in the sun, at the beach, exploring new grounds, taking on fun adventures)…minds start to wonder and people lose focus.

Me…and I am she🙋🏽‍♀️!

Offer tips on how people can stay productive in your industry. What advice do you have that helps you remain focused on your goals? Share. You never know who you’ll inspire to stay the course.

#9 Graduation for Colleges🎓

Oh, how I still remember the day of college graduation at JMU in Harrisonburg, Virginiađź’śđź’›. Graduation is a big day and highlights a huge accomplishment of starting something and seeing the mission through.

How can we connect this season of accomplishment to our brand message? What are some ways you can tie graduation to one of your core values to offer inspiration while shouting out these awesome grads?

#10 Teacher Appreciation Week

In the U.S., we honor our teachers during the week of May 2nd-6th. Although we should celebrate them all school year, this week is dedicated to show so much love and gratitude to our educators.

Depending on your industry/niche, you can do a whole post featuring products that will make teachers feel special that week, DIY things kids can do, and creative ideas on how parents can express their thanks.

Or, craft a beautiful social media post showing your sincere appreciation for the teachers who invest their time and energy into our kids.

They absolutely deserve it.

#11 National Nurses Week 2023

The American Nursing Association designates the week of May 6th-12th to recognize nurses for the hard work they do to care for their patients. Nurses

My sister Whitney is a nurse, and I know the hours and energy she puts into ensuring her patients are well taken care of. This is another opportunity to use our platform to spread love to an industry that so needs it with the health crisis we’re experiencing in the world.

A blog post on how we can uniquely celebrate our nurses, a well-thought-out email to extend love to nurses who may be on your list, or a thoughtful social media post is a way to spread the love.

#12 What’s Poppin’ In Your Niche

What are the latest trends in your industry? Any new best practices released? What topics are driving conversations around?

This is our opportunity to bring those trends/best practices/conversations to the forefront, educate our audience, and share our thoughts and opinions. Being in the know (and sharing that) continues to bring light to our expertise and shows we’re in tune with our market.

#13 Spotlight & Expand on an Article You Just Read In Your Industry’s Popular Publication

This sort of branches off the above content idea. As you’re staying in the know of what’s happening in our industry, why not bring attention to a recent article and give your thoughts and opinions on it?

Again, it shows you’re staying on top of things and you’re bringing an additional resource to light that your people can consume, making you,…well, resourceful!

#14 Share Learnings from an In-Person Event

Going to a conference? With your intentions set on what you aim to get out of it, think about how you can repurpose your notes into a blog post (and, of course, social media content). The beauty is, if this is an annual event you normally attend, you can keep updating that same post. It’s a smart SEO strategy and a way to share amazing value with your people.

In fact, I’m attending an event in June called TSP Live 2023, the premier business conference experience for African American entrepreneurs in Atlanta, GA. I’m already gearing up for my post-content marketing strategy to share with my audience.

I am coming for everything at TSP Live👏🏽.

#15 Teach Around Your Lead Magnet

Do you have a freebie that drives people to your email list? Perfect! If you don’t already, create a piece of content that supports that lead magnet as another way to generate opt-ins.

For example, I have a free content calendar that drives a lot of leads. I created a blog post that talks about how to stay consistent in your marketing. Naturally, including an opt-in for my content calendar made sense.

Include a link to the landing page of your lead magnet and embed an opt-in directly in that post, giving people multiple opportunities to subscribe to your list.

#16 The Top Questions Asked About (fill in the blank) Answered!

What were some of the most frequently asked questions that have hit your DM or social media comments? Check all your inboxes, compile a list of 7-10 questions, and convert them into a blog post.

You can either do one blog post per question (helps you get granular and go deep) or one round-up.

Whichever you decide, don’t forget to share these with your list as others are probably having the same questions!

#17 Your Top Selling Product Last Month (or Last Spring)

Yup, create a blog post that sells your product. Share the benefits, customer testimonials, and the transformation people experience. Focus more so on the solutions as opposed to the specs. People are eager to find out what’s in it for them and how they’ll benefit from it.

#18 Mental Health Awareness Month

As business owners, we have an amazing opportunity and duty to encourage, inspire, and raise awareness using our platforms. Yes, we want to promote our businesses. Yet, it’s also important to shed light on causes that are near to us to galvanize our communities.

With so much going on around mental health, why not use this month to share a post or two on why protecting our mental health is so important as entrepreneurs (or whatever industry you serve)? Make it authentic, speak from your heart, and link to helpful resources❤️

#19 Ah-ha Client Momentsđź’ˇ

You glean so much data when talking to clients. Whether it’s through your coaching calls, onboarding sessions, or free webinar trainings, your clients are always dropping bomb topic ideas you can leverage for future products, blog posts, or podcast episodes.

My favorite part during my coaching calls: When clients get those “ah-ha” moments! You know, when the light bulb goes off and they experience that breakthrough moment they need to take intentional action.

Share some of those moments in your content. There could be someone else who needs that exact breakthrough!
